Yes. Rescarbón Prime is very useful as an immediate first aid in cases of anticoagulant rodenticide ingestion, as it helps reduce absorption and potential damage. However, this type of poison also requires specific treatment with Vitamin K1, which can only be administered by a vet.
Therefore, after administering Rescarbón Prime, you should go to the vet as soon as possible, bringing as much information as possible about the ingested product.
A second dose of Rescarbón Prime should never be administered, as it contains a laxative (sodium sulfate), and repeating the dose could lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalances.
However, in some specific cases, it may be advisable to continue treatment 6 hours after the first dose of Rescarbón Prime, using Rescarbón Refuerzo (which does not contain a laxative) and always under veterinary supervision. This applies when:
Extended-release preparations have been ingested (e.g., certain beta-blockers, antidepressants, controlled-release painkillers).
The toxin causes slow gastric emptying (e.g., opioids, anticholinergics, drugs that slow motility).

Anticonvulsants like phenobarbital.

Ideally, this should be done 6 hours after the Rescarbón Prime dose and after visiting the veterinary clinic.
No, Rescarbón Prime is not suitable for guinea pigs, rabbits, or hamsters, as it contains sodium sulfate, which has a laxative effect and is not suitable for these species.
In these cases, the appropriate option is Rescarbon Refuerzo, which offers the same high adsorbent power but without the laxative, for safe administration in small and sensitive animals.
Although Rescarbon Prime greatly expands its adsorption spectrum thanks to its combination of high-performance activated charcoal, kaolin, chitosan, and clinoptilolite (zeolite), there are certain situations and substances where it will have little or no effect:
Caustic or corrosive substances: strong acids, strong alkalis, caustic detergents.
Alcohols and glycols: xylitol, ethanol, methanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol.
Button batteries or sharp metal fragments.
Hydrocarbons: petrol, kerosene, mineral oils.
Raw dough or yeast, and excess salt.
Specific animal and plant toxins: processionary caterpillars, toad toxins, some cyanogenic plants.
Essential oils and non-polar glues/adhesives.
It will also be less effective if:
A lot of time has passed since ingestion and the toxin has already been largely absorbed.
Rescarbón Prime should not be administered in the following situations:
Severe gastrointestinal problems
Gastrointestinal obstruction, perforation, or ileus.
Persistent vomiting with a high risk of aspiration.
Conditions where the laxative is not safe.
Moderate or severe dehydration that cannot be quickly corrected.
Species for which it is not formulated.
Do not use in animals other than dogs or cats.
Administer 3 ml per kilogram of body weight.
Examples:
A 5 kg animal should receive 15 ml.
A 12 kg animal should receive 36 ml.
A 23 kg animal should receive 69 ml.
A 40 kg animal should receive 120 ml (equivalent to two pre-filled 60 ml syringes).
- Make sure the animal is conscious and able to swallow.
- Keep the animal’s head in a natural position, without tilting it backwards.
- Turn the syringe ring (1) to adjust the dose according to the animal’s weight (3 ml per kg of body weight).
- Check the selected amount in millilitres (ml) on the body of the syringe (2).
- Remove the cap and administer the contents directly into the animal’s mouth, slowly and in small portions, allowing the animal to swallow between each one.

Although none of its ingredients are harmful in and of themselves, its powerful adsorption capacity will also bind nutrients from the daily diet. Therefore, it should not be administered for long periods of time or used as a remedy for diarrhoea.
Yes. After administration, it’s normal for stools to appear black due to the activated charcoal. Since it contains an osmotic laxative (sodium sulfate), it can cause diarrhoea and, in some cases, mild dehydration or minor electrolyte disturbances, especially if the animal has previously had digestive problems. It can also stain skin, fur, or fabrics if it comes into contact with them.
